Tubular white to pale yellow flowers in spring or early summer produce elliptical red drupes with sweet-tart flesh, eaten fresh or made into liquor. Includes natsu-gumi, aki-gumi, bikkuri-gumi, and nawashiro-gumi among others. Unrelated to the confectionery gummy.
