Coast Redwood🌲

An evergreen conifer in the cypress family, the only species of its genus. Native to the Pacific coast of North America. Individuals reaching 115 m tall have been reported — the tallest living trees on Earth. Flat lanceolate leaves resemble yew (hence the Japanese alternative 'ichii-modoki'). The genus name honors Sequoyah, inventor of the Cherokee syllabary. Endangered.
